Update on DEP’s Proposed Mega Land Use Rules – What It Means for Monmouth and Ocean Counties
Why Attend:
- On August 5, DEP’s 1057 page land use rule will be officially proposed. The public will have 90-days to submit comments.
- This rule, if adopted, will have disasterous impacts on the shore economy, from restricting development along the coast, requiring more burdensome requirements for even the simplest projects, driving up the cost of any public or private project, and making it more difficult to perform routine shore protection projects.
- Urban areas, like Long Branch and Asbury Park, will be especially negatively impacted due to the burdens being placed on redevelopment projects.
- The rule furthers the Department’s stated objective of a “managed retreat” from the Jersey shore by making it difficult to develop, redevelop, or do business along the coast
This meeting will discuss some of the major components and impacts of this rule proposal and will address what you can do to protect the shore economy.
